Hello Aqua Tutus,
First, thanks to Treasurer Helga Malhmann for leading the June general meeting in my place. I'm grateful she volunteered, since both I and Vice President Dan Wilcox were traveling during the meeting.
Much thanks to Dave Chervin for volunteering to take Neil Benjamin's place as the program presenter for the June general meeting. I've seen Dave present the marine life of Northern California several times, and it's always an interesting and informative show. I just wish I could remember more of what he shows!
In July, Neil will present his experiences from his trip to the Philippines earlier this year. Having just returned from the Philippines myself, I'm looking forward to seeing our similarities and differences. I suspect his presentation will include thresher sharks photographed near Malapescua Island. Debbie and I recently travelled there to see the sharks and were enthralled by their beauty and grace.
For those of you who recently returned from the Philippines, start looking through your camera files to see which photos and clips you'd like to share with the rest of the club during August's special Philippines-focused members night. Please try to share no more than what can be shown in five minutes or less. If you have only one or two photos you'd like to share, that's fine too! They can be added to a special group just for such photos.
I'll end my letter here, since I know Newsletter Editor Derek Suring is waiting for me to finish this letter, so he can publish the July Tooter. Thanks, Derek, for your patience and reminder!
Hope to see you all in our next general meeting on Thursday, July 2 and/or the
Club Dive for July with Shawn Passeri serving as point-of-contact for diving on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11. His goal is to dive from a place the club rarely does: Hidden Beach located between San Carlos and McAbee beaches.
Warmly
Jim Driggers
Club president
