Greetings from the President, July 2025

Hello Aqua Tutus,

Thanks to Arnie Warshawsky, Dan Wilcox, Sofia Krasovskaya, and Eric Hoagland who joined me in offering photos and videos for the club's Members Night entertainment. Thanks also to Dave Chervin for managing and presenting content from all these sources. It's always fun to see other club members' work and to share my own.

Thanks to Giuseppe Ciaravino, Lindsay Martin, and Derek Suring for volunteering to continue in their roles as the club's at-large members for another year.

Entertainment for the July 3 club general meeting will be a surprise to everyone including me at this point. That's another way of saying we haven't been able to confirm anyone to present for July, but David Sheh and I will come up with something to make the evening interesting for club members and guests.

For the August general meeting, Mike Boom will present his The Faces of Indonesia video. For those who haven't seen Mike's work, he does extraordinary macro videography and has served as the underwater video pro on the liveaboard dive boat Nai’a in Fiji. He's sold video footage for use in documentaries, commercials and educational videos. Mike will be coming to the meeting in-person with his projection equipment and asks that everyone who can join in him the room. What you see on the in-room screen will be significantly better quality that what you'd see on Zoom.

On Saturday, July 19 Dennis Hocker is hosting SMB training, social gathering, more. This is a great opportunity to learn a skill not taught in Open Water or Advanced Open Water classes: how to rig and successfully deploy an SMB while remaining underwater and not endangering yourself or others around you. Sounds simple, but I and others who've deployed SMBs and lift bags underwater can all share horror stories of what's gone wrong. the gathering is a great opportunity to hang out with other club members to talk, drink, and eat. See the calendar entry for more information and to register!

On the following Saturday, the club's monthly dive will be in the Carmel area and will give you the chance to practice deploying SMBs while, hopefully(!) remaining submerged. Again, see the club's Events page for more information.

Looking forward to seeing club members and guests at the next general meeting.

Warmly,

Jim Driggers
